How did you first meet?
We met on an ice-skating rink in Manchester City Centre through a group of mutual friends about 5 years ago. Holly pushed me round on a plastic seal because I was terrible at ice skating!
How did you know she was “the one”?
I knew Holly was the one on our first date. Sounds cheesy, but it’s true. I took her to see a Shura show, we clicked straight away and we haven’t stopped laughing together since!
How did you both propose and were the rings a surprise or did you choose them together?
Holly took me to Berlin for a city break. I had no idea she was going to propose, even though he had been acting shifty the whole first day! We walked around the city all day taking photos, and found a really good photo op at the row of pillars at the Neues Museum. Holly asked me to walk to a particular point for a photo, and when I turned around, no-one else was around and she was down on one knee! Totally shocked and surprised, I burst into happy tears and immediately said yes.
Holly designed my ring and the whole thing was a total surprise. She had an idea of the sort of things I liked; vintage, a different coloured stone, gold etc. She secretly worked with Rob and Jen to choose a cognac diamond and create a unique ring that means the world to me. To say they nailed it is an understatement.
We took the shape of my ring and applied it to Holly’s, which she had input on. She had already seen the diamond she wanted when she picked mine, so we designed a ring that echoes the design of my ring, but it’s totally personalised to her.
Once Sam had received my ring, she planned a secret day in Manchester. We went for brunch at Cottonopolis and then she got lost in the city centre (where we have lived for years may I add) so I had no idea where we were going, so it was a good distraction technique to be honest! We then ended up at The King Street Townhouse Hotel, were she had arranged afternoon tea, a massage in the spa and an afternoon in the roof top spa with infinity pool! We then went to 20 Stories and watched the sun set over Manchester! It was a perfect day!
What made you choose The Workshop to create your engagement rings?
Last year I took Holly away for a weekend at Hebden Bridge for her birthday and we stumbled on the Workshop. I dragged Holly in there, looked around, had a quick chat with Jen and knew instantly that would be the place I would want my ring from. Ethically sourced materials, crafted by talented people who really care and walk you through the process without any pressure. We couldn’t be happier with the rings and the way Rob and Jen have looked after us.
What’s the most amazing thing about each other?
Holly’s ‘Dad jokes’. They’re terrible, but she makes me laugh all day every day – I couldn’t be happier!
Sam is the kindest, funniest person I know, she has a heart of gold and makes me so happy! Just want to hang around with each other all the time!
