How did you first meet?
I had been given Faye’s phone number on bonfire night last year by a family friend of hers who thought we would get along…she wasn’t wrong!
What made you realise she was “the one”?
When we had been away on holiday to Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro and were travelling home, we went to the airport 12 hours late…after a frantic 15 minutes sorting a different route home and we both just burst out laughing!
Tell us about the proposal…
I proposed in Windermere up Orrest Head. We were supposed to be going for a hot air balloon ride over the South Lakes that same morning, but the weather was against us and we went for a walk instead. I waited for a moment when we were on our own (bar a few sheep) and clumsily popped out the ring, kneeling in some sheep poo added to the romance…how could she say no?
Was the engagement ring a surprise or did you choose it together?
We had been to The Workshop together for Faye to have her finger measured and she had given me an idea (or 20) of the sort of rings she liked. I returned alone to the shop to pick out a stone from a number that Rob and Jenny had got in that fit the bill. I had some rough ideas of how I wanted the ring to look and so Jenny drew up some CAD images to show how the ring would look and I knew it was exactly what Faye wanted. Faye hadn’t expected the ring to be ready in time because the estimate was 5 weeks from when she had her finger measured, however Rob and Jenny worked their magic and managed to get the ring ready in under 2 weeks.
What made you choose The Workshop to make your engagement ring?
We were in agreement that we wanted the ring to be something that was unique and a bit quirky. Faye had been looking at lots of designs and had seen some rings on The Workshop website that looked like the kind of thing she had been looking for. When we visited the shop, Rob, Jenny and of course Ruby (the dog) made us feel really at ease and gave us plenty of very welcome advice in how we could bring the ideas we had to a reality. When we left the shop we were both instantly in agreement that we wanted Rob and Jenny to make our engagement ring.
. . . and an extra question – if you could choose a famous or important person from now or from history to attend your wedding, who would it be and why?
We’d probably have to go for one of our favourite bands to perform at the wedding…we had a little discussion and just couldn’t settle on one!
