How did you first meet?
We met on a night out in Harrogate, due to us both working shifts it took aaages to arrange a proper first date. In the interim we were talking and texting every day and when we finally managed to go on a date is was like we’d known each other forever.
When did you know they were the one?
Ash: I first had an idea that Em might be the one when she knew the only two species of mammal that can lay eggs, it’s very rare to find someone with that knowledge. I definitely knew she was the one, one night when we had gone for a moonlit stroll around Temple Newsam and we just stood looking out over Leeds for hours just talking.
Emily: I knew Ash was the one as soon as I met him. It was genuine love at first sight. We used to spend hours talking and trading useless facts, mainly about animals. The cherry on the cake was after a few months of dating he booked a surprise trip to Dublin. No one had ever been so kind and treated me so well… I still don’t know what I’ve done to deserve him!
Who chose the engagement ring?
Ash: I chose the engagement ring, I’d had a vague idea of what I wanted and had subtly tested Emily’s reactions to my idea without giving anything away. Jenny’s drawings brought my idea to life and I knew straight away I’d made the right choice.
How did you propose?
Ash– I proposed in the Lake District, part of the way up the Old Man of Coniston is Low Water Tarn. If you go up a bit higher and look down on it, it looks heart shaped (sort of). I’d managed to smuggle the ring on the hike with us and a bottle of champagne and two plastic champagne flutes, Emily had turned to take a photo and as soon as her back was turned I got the ring out and got down on one knee and the rest is history.
What made you choose The Workshop to make your engagement ring?
I’d Googled lots of rings and been in several jewellers but the rings I’d seen were just a bit bland and meaningless. I liked the idea of having a bespoke ring made so that no one else would have the exact same ring and it would be unique, just like Emily. I stumbled across the workshop’s website and really liked the idea of a husband and wife team and their whole ethos. It was definitely the right decision as the ring is absolutely exquisite and the whole process was brilliant.
