How did you first meet?
We met in Jamie’s hometown of Bradford, when I was working there and commuting every day from my beloved Manchester!
When did you know he was the one?
We both fell deeply in love when we took a trip to Florence. We both knew we were pretty serious about each other after that. The Holiday was so special to us, that we even named our Daughter Florence.
Was the proposal a surprise or did you choose the ring together?
We had talked about marriage, but Jamie wanted it to be a surprise when he proposed. He proposed randomly late at night in our T25 camper-van parked on our drive! We create light art photography as well as sand and ice sculptures with our business Sand In Your Eye, so he drew ‘Will you marry me?’ with light. Unfortunately he wrote it backwards!
I didn’t have an engagement ring as I had told him I didn’t want one as we work in sand a lot, I would ruin a diamond ring and end up not wearing it, so we had decided our wedding rings were more important to us.
What made you choose The Workshop to make your rings?
I had been following your Instagram page for a while and I had seen some brushed gold organic rings on there and absolutely loved them. I could also see that they would fare better for us wearing them every day in the sand. We popped in to the shop and Rob was great listening to our requirements and why polished rings wouldn’t be suitable. He also talked about how he created the organic rings; both Rob and Jenny couldn’t have been more helpful and lovely. We even got to see them being made on Valentine’s Day! It is an experience we will never forget and we will be back each year on our anniversary to get tiny diamonds added to my wedding band.
On our wedding day we made a box of ice to place our rings inside. Our daughter then smashed the box open to retrieve the rings and then they were passed around the guests to warm. Everybody commented on how unique and beautiful they were. It isn’t just that we got to see the rings being made, it’s that they were made just for us, which is what going direct to the craftspeople is all about.
